Lego A/S (trade name: The Lego Group) is a Danish toy manufacturing firm situated in Billund, Denmark. The company was founded in 1949. It specialises in the production of Lego-branded toys, which are mostly made out of interlocking plastic bricks. In addition, the Lego Group has constructed various amusement parks across the globe, each of which is known as a Legoland, and manages a large number of retail outlets.

Ole Kirk Christiansen launched the firm on August 10, 1932, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Lego is derived from the Danish phrase leg godt, which literally translates as "play well." The Lego Group surpassed Mattel to become the world's biggest toy business by revenue in the first half of 2015, with sales of US$2.1 billion, overtaking the previous leader, Mattel, which had US$1.9 billion in sales.
