Call of Duty is a first-person shooter video game series developed by Activision and distributed by Electronic Arts. It began with a concentration on World War II-themed games when it initially launched in 2003. Game settings have ranged from the Cold War to future planets to outer space, with the series having seen games set throughout various periods of history. Infinity Ward was the first studio to work on the games, and later Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games joined in on the fun.
